Thursday Thoughts

My thoughts for this week center on gardening. I'm a little late this year getting everything ready, but then I went to sleep one New Year's Eve and suddenly it was April. No not literally. But ever feel like that?

I' beginning to think it's because I plan things in advance so time moves faster...or feels like it. Or I could be crazy. Never rule anything out!

So gardening. Got my bulbs last fall from Brecks, planted them, and this spring they really did grow! It was a beautiful sight. Next step is vegetable garden. The plan is carrots, green beans, peas, cucumbers, squash, tomatoes, peppers (bell), and potatoes.

Summer time

And the livin' is easy...I love that song.

In my world, summer is a time of outdoors, beach, family trips, and gardening. This year I've planted peas, green beans, cucumbers (though I seemed to have lost that plant. I swear I put it in the ground!) corn, and tomatoes. I don't love gardening, I think weeds are greenery too and look just fine there what a pain to yank them out. But I like the end product!

I don't have a favorite part to summer, save maybe the heat. I hate the cold! Much rather heat, even with humidity. What's your favorite part of summer?

Garden

I have green beans and peas! I'm so excited to be able to pick them and eat them fresh from the garden. Still waiting on my cucumbers and onions.

I think the rabits and chipmunks may have got to them before the fence went up. Last year I'll make that mistake!

And the cucumber plants look like they should be doing something more than growing-like flowering or something. But they're not. Ah, well, I'll wait. I don't THINK they're weeds...

Flowers

I like flowers. They're great, honest. But let's face facts-I know nothing about them. Anyone who read my blog about planting my garden knows this. I look at a picture of the flower (or the item itself if I'm not growing from seeds) and buy it based on whether I like it or not.

Bought my godmother a lovely hanging basket for Mother's Day. Do either of us know what it is? Nope. But it's pretty! Hence the purchase.

So what do I decide to add into my contemporary paranormal story? An 18th century horticulturist. Why oh why do I do this to myself? It's all well and good, fine and dandy, but for one teeny tiny problem: Current day flowers had different names and would possibly not even be around in 1773. Yup. insanity.

Alas, it really works well in the story if I do say so myself. The research was well worth it.

Crazy days of spring

It's been a crazy few weeks here. Between everything that normally happens in life and writing, I feel as if I'm always on the go but with very little to show for it. Except these allergies. Yeah. Pollen.

But instead of going even crazier and trying to get more accomplished when I have less time, I'm going to take tonight to buy some flowers for my garden. I don't guarantee they'll survive, I don't even guarantee they'll grow. But I'm going to try.

So tonight is the purchase of flowers and veggie seed packets (and mulch which requires nothing of me save the purchasing and spread of it) and tomorrow is the actual planting of these things. And spreading of the mulch I suppose. I'll take pictures, we can laugh together. :)
