About 2 months ago, Kat Henry Doran sent me her book, Try Just Once More, a contemporary romantic mystery.
Wow.
I adore Maggie. Usually, though I can be a total bitch too, I steer clear of characters like this. I don't know why, but they can come off too hard, as if that's the only thing to them. No softness, no depth, no character so to speak. They're the know-it-all who takes no crap from anyone. Hey, I'm all about that. But there's more to a person (or should be!) than that.
Maggie's a hard ass but she's got all that depth and vulnerability and more. I described this to a friend who said "She's got moxie".
Yes. Yes Maggie does.
There's way more to it than a character piece, however. There's a mystery involved. Complicated and twisty, and such a wonderful ride. And the hero? Mike Brandt is...yum. The blurb describes him as nosey and yeah I can see that. But he's a cop for a reason, not a neighbor sticking his nose (however sexy that might be) over the fence, eyes glued to a pair of binoculars.
His job is to serve and protect, and he does just that. Maggie doesn't like it, but if she did, where'd the conflict be? The snappy dialogue? The heat between them?
Check out Try Just Once More for yourself. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
