#BookBlitz The Descent from Truth by Gaylon Greer

About Gaylon:
Working with traveling carnivals and itinerant farm labor gangs during his teen and early adult years took Gaylon Greer up, down, and across the U.S. and introduced him to a plethora of colorful individuals who serve as models for his fictional characters. After several years as an Air Force officer and then a university professor with a Ph.D. in economics, Greer developed an interest in writing fiction and attended workshops at the University of Iowa, the University of Nebraska, and Bryn-Mawr College. He also studied with the U.C. Davis Extension program and the Algonquian Writers Group. His most recent novel, THE DESCENT FROM TRUTH is available at www.Amazon.com and other e-book retailers. Please visit Greer at www.GaylonGreer.com

A randomly chosen commenter will receive an autographed hardcover version of the author's previous book, The Price of Sanctuary.

BLURB:

Alex Bryson is patrolling Rocky Mountain backcountry in his job as a security guard when he discovers a woman with a baby wandering alone in the snow far from the nearest road. He takes them to shelter in a weekender cabin and sees a newscast that suggests the woman, Pia Ulmer, kidnapped the baby from its rightful parents and that it is the sole heir of Peru’s wealthiest and most corrupt family. Pia claims that she is the baby’s mother, and Alex doesn't know what to believe. After turning her in, he continues to struggle with his budding feelings for her and remains unsure of the true story. He becomes more and more involved until finally there is no turning back—lives are on the line. He helps Pia get free from a brutal world that values money over life, and together they devise a plan to reclaim the baby. Just when it looks like they might succeed, they discover an international conspiracy that changes the game entirely.

EXCERPT:

“Please,” she said, her voice as rough as sandpaper and barely above a whisper. “Please, do not give my baby to those people.”

“Are we back to that? First you're his mother, then you're his nanny. Now you're his mother again?”

“They took him from me. Look at him, Alex. Both Mr. Koenig and his wife are blondes.”

“Koenig’s an old man. His hair's white.”

“Study Frederick's face. Do you not see me in his eyes? His chin and his mouth?”

The similarities were uncanny, he'd grant her that. Good enough to get away with claiming to be the kid's mother if Alex hadn't learned the truth. The way she had attacked him, trying to kill him with that skillet, she clearly didn’t want to go back to civilization and prove who she was. He turned away, tossed Frederick in a maneuver that brought a cry of delight, and stuffed the boy's blanket-clad feet through the leg holes in the backpack. With his parka snapped around both of them and the diaper bag tied to his waist, he gripped his rifle in one hand, his snowshoes in the other, and headed for the porch. At the door, he turned for a final glance at Pia.

She had set her mouth in a stubborn line. The eye that had been plastered shut was closed. She stared at him with the other. When she saw him looking at her, she spoke again. “Watch over him, Alex. Someone wants to harm him. Don’t let them.”

A new tack, another lie. He stepped onto the porch and strapped on his snowshoes. That should have been the last he saw of her, but the specter of her ravaged face and defiant expression stayed with him as he trudged across the sunlit expanse of glistening snow that sloped gradually toward the Warrior River Gorge.

LA police building

I did a lot of research into the LAPD for my contemporary romantic suspense, Improper Conduct. All the information I use for the building itself, I got from Curbed Los Angeles.

The reason I continued to refer to this site is because of this paragraph:
We took a media tour of the building yesterday with Councilwoman Jan Perry and City Engineer Gary Moore, who showed us not only the public spaces, but also the future Compstat room, the roof helipad, Chief Bratton's future office (and he leaves that office on October 31st), and the fabled "cigar patio" that is not, despite rumors, Bratton's personal stogy stage, but is open to staff on the 10th floor. Each floor features an open floor plan, so cubicle dwellers will have access to natural light, while the offices and conference rooms line the inner perimeter of each floor.
But the pictures are worth it. If you get the chance, flip through them.

Having never been there, and getting all my information from the internet, I try to be general with my descriptions. But the fact that this building is shiny and new helps with the story.

New Release #writing

It's been a while since I've had anything published. A while since I've written anything, actually. Been busy with other things, other projects, other stuff. So I decided to take some time and write. This week I'm devoting my entire week to a new project, a contemporary romantic suspense based in LA.

The little writing bar on the side has held steady at 11% for months while I tried to figure out the rest of this story. Sunday I decided to rip it all out, start fresh, and begin anew.

It took forever to get through chapter 1! But once I was in there, firmly entrenched in Jules head, story plotted through the 90% mark, it was smooth sailing. Jules is a little left-of-center, stream-of-conscious woman, while Archer is a no-nonsense, ex-military man with a sense of the ridiculous and sarcasm that matches Jules.

I'm hoping my writing week will get me through the 3/4 mark of this story, and so far-judging by the % bar to the right-I'm not doing bad!

New Year--New #Goals

I've left writing for far too long, 2013 is the year I'm going to step up my writing. No more putting it off, no more doing other things.

Romantic suspense: police, Texas Rangers, FBI, and hot lovin' what more is there?

New day

New attitude. Or it could be the 16 oz of Pepsi I already drank. Not really sure. It's been a long morning already! I expect the day to continue on this way.

I will not think of the romantic arc from hell today. I will appreciate what I have instead. Like my brother's dog I watched this weekend. She's so energetic and friendly. She doesn't like bunnies, but I've successfully kept her from gobbling up Peter Rabbit (see below) who is so adorable I've decided to adopt him. In the he stays outdoors, I stay in method.

He snuck into my garden, despite the fence, and tried to hide from me beneath 2 thin blades of grass. His nose was twitching and he stayed perfectly still, but I managed the picture anyway. How can I not adore him? So cute!

Tomorrow's another day to think about romantic arcs. I'll do it then.

My Buffy comic kingdom

For a romantic arc!

As a romance writer I didn't think it'd be this difficult to plot a romantic arc between two people who will make a damned fine couple if I do say so myself. If only they'd fall in love! I mean come on, people! Be nice to each other, smile that little sexy smile, show a little interest.

I decided to plot through each act then do each chapter in the hopes this new book would go faster. I am stuck, not with the plot, with the romantic arc. As in why oh why can't I figure out Grayson and Juliette and why they are two stubborn people?

Pft.

I'm doing something wrong here, I know it. I just can't think what it could be. I even took 2 of this gorgeous 3 day weekend and DIDN'T think about the story. I hate to start a new story, this is the one I really want to write. Alas.
